Martin Paterson and Brian Jensen were both stretchered off in last night’s 3-2 Carling Cup defeat to Barnsley.
Paterson will be out of action for an unspecified time after it was decided he needed surgery for a knee injury today to repair a tweaked cartilage.
Jensen though only suffered a dead leg and gaffer, Owen Coyle announced on the Official Burnley FC Website:
‘Brian could be fit for the weekend’
Speaking about the injury to Pato he said:
‘Martin tweaked a cartilage and will have surgery, at which point we’ll know further how long he will be sidelined.’
The news is therefore mixed, we would certainly be in a stronger position if Jensen was available for the Spurs game at White Hart Lane this Saturday.
Losing Paterson would be a blow but not a disaster with loan striker, David Nugent chomping at the bit to make a start following his brace from the bench against Sunderland last Saturday. Steven Fletcher, Steve Thompson and Jay Rodriguez would also be available for a role up front.
Let’s hope though that the injury to Paterson won’t keep him sidelined for too long. That’s all we need after losing Chris McCann for 2-3 months following his medial ligament injury against the Black Cats.
