Claret Dale seeks new members of the Sheffield Clarets Supporters Club so if you are connected with the Steel City and support the mighty Clarets why not join up?

September. The month we praise or lament the Clarets after the first half dozen or so games of the season. The month the Summer comes to an end (if we have had one). A month when thousands of 18 year olds across the country leave home on a tax-dodging adventure (I did it). The month when the Sheffield Clarets attempt to recruit new members!

For any Burnley-supporting students leaving home for Sheffield and wondering how they will get their Claret and Blue fix, the Sheffield Clarets hold the solution. Not only do we assist with travel to games, but we also provide an outlet (usually in the pub) to discuss your BFC related thoughts if those new friends you`ve met, well, just don`t quite understand!

We are not, however, a group restricted to students. We have members of varying ages and would welcome any new additions. Our main female member Lesley would, I am sure, be delighted with any new lady folk to assist her in moments of immaturity from the juveniles she is surrounded by (unfortunately some of these juveniles are 30+).

We have had a number of notable moments during our short time together as a supporters group. In December last year our flag bearing the group name was picked up by ITV cameras for ‘The Championship` coverage of Sheffield Utd v Burnley. The commentator at the game, Clive Tyldesley called us the ‘Transpennine Oxymorons`. A tag that has since stuck!

Additionally, at half time of the Bristol City game at the end of last season we won the inaugural Pie ‘n` Chips which was a tremendous laugh.

Our provisional date for the next meeting is Wednesday October 14th at The Devonshire Cat (This is our usual meeting place – ideal for real ale enthusiasts!). We are not a formal group and you will be able to get from the group as much, or little as you want to put in. It would be great to see some new faces!

If you have any queries, you can email sheffieldclarets@hotmail.com or speak to any of the WTBM fanzine sellers on a match day (we are all Sheffield Claret members).

  • Claretdale says:

thats excellent Phil – good work. Still cant believe they wouldnt let us keep that up at Wembley – It wasnt blocking any view!

  • turfmanphil says:

Really I didnt know that? Chumps! I mean we cant have fans enjoying themselves can we!!

  • Claretdale says:

Yeah. Thing was they rolled it up like a carpet – So you bascially couldnt see anything – Was pretty pointless it being there really! Stewards werent that bothered though – I suppose their priority was to make sure spectators were OK, a flag was not really on the radar.
