It is reported in the media today that the Clarets are trying to bring Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson to Turf Moor on loan.

However it is understood that a number of other Championship clubs are chasing the player including Watford, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday.

The 20 year old Sunderland born winger came through the Middlesbrough Academy to make the first team and he made a debut for the club at age 17 in March 2005 against Sporting Lisbon in a UEFA Cup tie. His first Premiership game came almost six months later against Arsenal. He deputised for an injured Stewart Downing that day and helped them to a 2-1 home victory. He has made over 35 appearances since that time.

Watford could be favourites to sign him as the player was recently on loan to the Hornets for three months after agreeing a loan deal in September 2007. The player has also had a short one month loan spell at Leeds in October 2006.
