One Sunday Paper today (The News of the World) believes that Owen Coyle is set to make a loan bid for Spurs’ Welsh International left back,Gareth Bale.

The 20 year old defender who can also play on the wing joined Tottenham Hotspur from Southampton in May 2007 completing a four-year deal for £5 million. Further additional payments though could see Bale’s transfer fee reach £10m. He signed a new four-year deal with the club in August 2008

He has found opportuntities limited mainly due to a number of injuries. He missed most of 2008 with ligament damage. In June 2009, Bale had to undergo surgery for a knee injury ruling him out for up to eight weeks.

Whether Harry Redknapp would be prepared to release Bale on loan is another matter. Their regular left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is set for duty with Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations in January, so they made wish to retain Bale as cover.

Nottingham Forest are also considering a permanent bid for the player so the Clarets will face competition if the rumour is true. We already have a plethora of left backs with Jordan, Kalvenes and Easton in the squad so I am not quite sure if this has any legs unless the player’s ability to play on the wing is another factor.
