Clarets gaffer Sean Dyche is understood to be chasing Seagulls striker Ashley Barnes and it is reported that the 23 year old is set to head up to Lancashire for talks.

It is believed a fee of £500,000 could be enough to secure the services of the former Austrian U20 international.

Barnes has also been chased by several cubs during the summer ever since his availability was announced. It is thought that Dyche has entered the race relatively late following the sale of Austin but could be about to progress further.

The local Sussex Argus though has poured cold water on the link even suggesting Barnes is well out of the Clarets price range and is still in head coach Oscar Garcia’s plans. The paper though does admit that Burnley have expressed an interest. They go on to say that injury-hit Brighton have no desire to lose firepower, especially so close to the the transfer window closing this Monday night.

Barnes started his professional career with Plymouth in 2007 after a prolific goal-scoring spell with local club Paulton Rovers of the Southern League. In a three-year spell down in Devon though he found opportunity limited and had a number of spells away on loan. He can list amongst his loans, Oxford United, Salisbury City, Eastbourne Borough, Torquay United and finally Brighton and Hove Albion. He signed on loan for the Seagulls in March 2010 until the end of that season. In July 2010, Barnes then signed a permanent two-year contract with Brighton for an undisclosed fee and since that time has notched up 37 goals in 121 appearances.
