Sean Dyche has been speaking recently about his efforts to replace striker Charlie Austin who left for QPR two weeks ago.

“There have been a few things where we have gone in for people who we think would suit us and help us, but they can`t come out on loan at the moment. We have to find that balance, should we hang on, or can we make something else happen and see what comes first?, said the Burnley gaffer

“It`s an ongoing process – we haven`t got the resources to throw at it, so we have to be patient.”

“Business is business, it`s not always that easy to call in favours – each club has their reasons for the markers they put down appropriate for deals to happen.

“But you can only presume the loan market will open up due to the nature of Premier League clubs looking at their squad numbers, keeping as many in the camp until the end of the window because of the ‘what if` scenario.

“You are also getting more of that with clubs with bigger squads at our level.

“It`s a challenge, but we`ll take that on and work as hard as we possibly can.”

It is somewhat frustrating for Clarets fans that we are continually reminded how poor we are despite having just received somewhere between £2-4 million for Charlie Austin depending on which media speculation you read. It is perhaps also frustrating to see the word ‘loan` banded about too rather than a permanent signing but that`s life at Turf Moor. You either calmly accept the lack of ambition and keep a full set of hair or pull your hair out and accept that nothing will ever change until a new broom comes in. I think I am getting a bald patch!

Clarets fans are continually reminded what other Championship clubs are capable of doing too. Even Doncaster Rovers have signed Derby County striker Theo Robinson on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Robinson was a player also linked with a move to Turf Moor only last month.

So who are we actually targeting? The latest to be linked is Cardiff City`s Joe Mason. When Sean Dyche was asked about the player he replied:

“He`s one of about 37 names to be thrown at me, it`s an endless list, but I understand completely – we probably are one of the more obvious clubs in the market for a striker after the sale of Charlie.”

So that is neither a denial nor confirmation?

The manager at Cardiff though, Malky Mackay is an old pal of Dyche, so maybe some sort of deal could be amicably agreed if the interest is there?

Joe Mason started his career with his hometown club, Plymouth Argyle having joined them at the age of ten and being developed via their youth system. Cardiff City agreed a £250,000 transfer fee for Mason in July2011 and he arrived having signed a three year deal. Since that time, the 22 year old Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has scored 15 goals from 67 appearances (about 1-in-4.5) helping his side achieve promotion to the top flight last season .
