The January window will soon be open and the speculation of course has already started with the media in full throttle.
So what is the gossip regarding Burnley? Who could be on the move in January and who could be coming to Turf Moor?
It is perhaps inevitable that Jay (He’s One of Our Own’) Rodriguez would continue to be in the spotlight after the mad summer season linking him with a move to Southampton!
Premier League clubs have also been linked over the last few months and the latest would appear to be Stoke City.
Media news today from non other than the all-knowing Alan Nixon would suggest that Tony Pulis could be prepared to offer £6 million for the locally-born striker in January.
Norwich City too, who we have just drawn in the 3rd round of the FA Cup could also be considering an offer although it is thought that £6 million could be out of their reach.
Whether the speculation is true or not, it looks unlikely that the JayRod rumours will subside in the New Year and we could be under increasing pressure to retain his services. You just begin to wonder too, whether the Sam Vokes loan signing could come more into the equation if we do say goodbye to JayRod. Could this be the club planning ahead just in case? If they are, then let’s give them credit since some Clarets fans have been critical in the past when it often seems that players leaving the club come too late in the day with very little time to find replacements in the transfer windows before they close.
The Clarets will be hoping to extend Rodriguez’s contract if they can with his current one expiring at the end of the 2012/13 season but we shall have to see if he is tempted by any offers next month
Another player who could be leaving the club is Andre Amougou. He clearly seems to be out of favour at the moment and the defender has recently been struggling even to make the bench. Amougou’s contract is up at the end of this season so the club may be hoping to cash in on the player before he can leave for free on a Bosman next summer.The media however suggest today that he might not be prepared to be forced out and might only consider moving in January if the right deal elsewhere comes along.
So thats the possible ‘outs’ in the news, what about the possible ‘ins’? Well we continue to be linked with former Burnley youth player and current Bournemouth midfielder, Marc Pugh and you can read our recent article ‘Rumour Mill-Race for Pugh?’ on that score.
This week though we have been linked with a new player, with reports that Burnley are just one of many clubs interested in Sunderland’s 20 year old, young striker Ryan Noble.
Any movement on that score though could be delayed until new manager, Martin O’Neill familarises himself with the Black Cats squad following Steve Bruce’s departure. It is thought however that at least a loan move could be possible in the January window.
Noble is a product of Sunderland’s youth academy having joined the club in 2007
He made his first professional appearance for the Black Cats in January 2010 after coming on as a substitute for Darren Bent in a 3-0 FA Cup victory against Barrow at the Stadium of Light.
The England Under 19 international has since made only limited appearances for the first team and has been sent out on two loan spells. In March 2010, Noble joined Watford on loan until the end of the 2009-10 season but failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Hornets. He then joined Championship side Derby County on an emergency loan deal but could only make one substitute appearance for the Rams before a back injury ruled him out of contention and he returned to Sunderland in late October 2010. The injury sidelined him during last season and he has only just returned having played in three reserve games. He has certainly made an impression for the second string, scoring seven goals, including two hat-tricks in those three games.
Despite the limited first-team appearances, he has still attracted a lot of interest with reports that Blackpool, Coventry City, Derby County and Middlesbrough also have the striker on their radars!
Burnley had also recently been linked with Cliftonville’s striker Rory Donnelly but a possible deal seems to have hit the buffers. Brentford are understood to have increased their offer for him.
The Clarets were reported to have made a bid of £100,000 but it is understood Bees’ boss Uwe Rosler was at the Oval to see Donnelly play in Cliftonville’s 2-1 Co. Antrim Shield Final victory against Glentoran leading to an improved offer.
Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers was also at the game suggesting we could have some significant competition for his signature.
