All the speculation suggests we are close to making our first permanent signing of the summer this week but Clarets fans have heard all this before from about May this year so will be treating all the rumours with a pinch of salt until someone actually signs.

Clarets fans though with be buoyed up (or is it Boyd up?-see below) by news that Eddie Howe is making positive noise about a signing or three this week:

“We are actively looking and hopefully we will be active early next week and bring some new players in, because we are very thin on the ground in terms of numbers,” said Howe after Saturday’s friendly 1-0 win over Sunderland.

“We have lost seven and brought two in, so hopefully we can add to the ins next week.”

A lot of gossip surrounds Preston winger, Keith Treacy and rumours will just not go away. It could be that he is on his way in a player/cash deal with defender. Leon Cort going in the opposite dirction.

However, another name has been thrown into the pot tonight with Sky Sports stating they understand an unnamed club have made a bid for Peterborough United winger George Boyd.

Boyd,25 has been an influential performer for Posh over the past four-and-a-half years and was a target for Blackpool in the January transfer window. Boyd has also been linked with a move to Turf Moor in the past but obviously nothing ever happened in that respect. However it would appear that we now may have made a bid for the winger with a view to replacing Chris Eagles who finalised a move to Bolton, along with Tyrone Mears last week.

Sky Sports state in their media report:

‘Peterborough director of football Barry Fry revealed at the end of last season the club would be prepared to let Boyd leave London Road for the right price.

The Posh’s resolve now appears set to be tested after a bid was made for Boyd, with Burnley understood to be keen on the former Stevenage attacker’
