Dyche – We’ll Bounce Back

Manager Sean Dyche has said he has no regrets this season despite seeing us fall back to the Championship after one year in the top flight and he’s backed the club to continue their upward curve of the last few years and bounce back once more in 2015-16.

Speaking to the Official Site as the players prepare for the final games of the campaign in the knowledge that we are relegated, Dyche explained that this group had been knocked down before and he had no doubts that we would stand back up in the future.

‘I don`t have any regrets. If there are any decisions go against you, you only hope they will balance out over the season. There was a collective decision made about the spending and a lot is made of that. It just wasn`t a market that was needing an extra £2m or £3m. It is a market that has jumped up to £7m, £8m or £9m, so when you are building a squad in the Premier League, how many of those can you bring in before a club is in real trouble? That`s the balance!’

Dyche goes on to say that fans will be more than aware of those Championship clubs with ‘massive debts’ but wealthy owners who can service and run those debts, and we simply aren’t in that position so we have to do it slowly and sensibly and with one high profile departure more than likely in Danny Ings, Dyche is content in knowing that most of the core of the players are under good and lengthy contracts, so the first task will be to keep that core together and then add what quality he can over the transfer window.

‘We haven`t got that. The Board are all Burnley people who care passionately about the club, but they haven`t got huge bank accounts where they can write off tens of millions of pounds. So it`s not about regret. It`s about realities and that is the reality of this football club.’

As for summer plans, he talks about those and says that whilst nothing can be guaranteed in the Championship he feels that we are in a good place to have another shout at promotion next season.

‘There are no guarantees because the Championship is not an easy league. But we think we are powerful and we like the group we`ve got and know we can add to it. But that`s for another day. For this moment there`s disappointment, but when we look at the two-and-a-half years I`ve been here as a whole, there have been massive strides. Most of the players here are under contract and good contracts too, so we`re happy with the group and we know we can add to it.’

He ends his interview by saying that since he’s been at Turf Moor he’s been delighted with the growth on and off the pitch as Burnley build those foundations we need for success, and again whilst relegation is disappointing, it simply means we try again and continue looking forward.

‘There has been so much growth in the club since I`ve been here, so it`s disappointing. I want to win and be in the Premier League, like everyone else does. We`ve had a season of being in there and now we`re not, so the challenge is to get back in there. There has been great growth in the players and I am absolutely sure of that. I can see it with my own eyes how they operate now, compared to the beginning of the season. They`re a completely different animal. The mentality has been superb. Remember this is a group who have been getting knocked constantly so to deal with that, keep performing and never be on the back foot is a great skill in itself.’
