Hard Earned Point For Dyche

Manager Sean Dyche has reflected on a hard earned point for Burnley in yesterday’s clash with Huddersfield Town.

Welcoming David Wagner’s newly promoted side to Turf Moor for the tie, both sides played out a scoreless draw to share the points and it was a tight game with few chances for either.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game for his post match press conference, Dyche was pleased to see the players give their all as we looked for the winner, but with Huddersfield set up to play on the counter he was happy enough with the clean sheet.

‘It`s a very pleasing point against a team who have made it very clear they want to come out have a go at the Premier League. They play with the freedom of coming into the league and they`ve only conceded three goals, I think, and only one from open play, so we knew we would have to try and break them down. They are defence-minded and look to counter and credit to them because they have had a good start to the season.’

With a few crowd rumblings at full time, Dyche went on to say that no side in the top flight will let you walk over them.

‘You have to respect the opposition, so it`s another great point. There were a couple of fans not very pleased at the end and I don`t know why. We are in the Premier league and I think it`s fair to say we have moved on considerably in my time here, so maybe they should have a think because we are going ok. I think a few of our fans today were thinking this would be a walk, but that just doesn`t happen in the Premier League, so I am very pleased with that point, another clean sheet and certain individual performances within that. I don`t always mention individuals, but I thought Steven Defour was absolutely outstanding today.’

With Jeff Hendrick coming back into the starting eleven in place of Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Dyche went on to say.

‘We were pushing throughout, but you have to be careful because you don`t want to open the door. No matter who you are playing, you have to find that healthy balance and we just about got it right overall. The thing I`m pleased about today was that there was more of a calmness to our play. We want to go for teams; everyone knows that, but now and again you have to find the calmness to diffuse that and we did that at times.’

With the blatant dive of their substitute Rajiv Van La Parra, he was yellow carded by the match day referee, Dyche went on to say a harder line needs to be taken because at the moment it can only be a red card if the referee misses it and it’s actioned retrospectively, which is pretty counter productive.

‘My only gripe is they have to change the rules about retrospective banning, because I have seen a player dive today in a manner that is unacceptable in my opinion. I don`t know anything about the player, but there is this new rule and in theory if that`s a penalty, they score and we get nothing, and then something happens to that player retrospectively. Now what happens is because they didn`t get a penalty nothing happens and it`s unacceptable.’
